Metal Roof vs Shingles: Which Lasts Longer in Tennessee Weather?
Hot summers, ice storms, and high wind events make Middle Tennessee tough on roofs. Here is how metal stacks up against asphalt shingles.
A quality metal roof in Tennessee will typically last 40 to 60 years, while asphalt shingles average 15 to 20. That gap matters in our climate, where summer heat, freeze cycles, and the occasional severe wind storm punish weaker roofing systems.
Conco metal roofing panels are built with extra wide ribs for added strength and a large under-lap siphoning channel that resists wind-driven rain. Shingles tend to lose granules and lift in high wind. Metal does not.
Metal also reflects more solar heat, which can lower attic temperatures in July and August. Many of our customers in Livingston, Cookeville, and Jamestown report meaningful savings on summer cooling after switching.
